I Am a Maker of Food Part 2

Back for Part 2! In the first “I Am a Maker of Food,” I covered dishes I made from Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook, Antoni Prowoski’s Cookbook, and the Bob’s Burgers Cookbook. Now things are going to get…exceptionally nerdy.

Now that I’ve had way more free time on my hands, I’ve gotten into a new genre of television—anime. I have multiple favorite shows that I watch (and rewatch, if it’s a one-season show), and because of this, Google targeted me for the Anime Cookbook. And, because I’m an absolute dork, I bought it.

The first dish I made from the cookbook is from a show called Bungo Stray Dogs. The dish is called Chazuke. It’s tea or broth poured over rice. It’s made with chicken, rice, umeboshi (pickled plum), salted kombu kelp, roasted nori. We plated it all and then poured green tea over it. Well, my parents poured green tea. I don’t like tea, so I used Dashi stock. It looked appealing in the bowl. It was…okay…in real life. It wasn’t as flavorful as I would have liked, so that would be something I’d have to work on. However, it was an extremely risky dish to try, so it was worth it.

The second dish I made from this cookbook is from my absolute favorite anime, Cowboy Bebop. I could go on and on about this show, but that would make this thing entirely too long. So now you just get the dish. The dish is called Chinjao Rosu—it’s a steak and bell pepper stir-fry. In the show, Spike and his partner Jet often don’t have enough money to afford meat, so the joke is that it’s “steak and peppers” minus the steak. But we had the steak. It was very simple stir fry: steak, peppers, bamboo strips, and a lovely sauce. My parents loved this one, and told me it should be part of the meal rotation. Even I ate the peppers in this dish. And I don’t eat vegetables.

The final dish in this post is from the official Supernatural cookbook, and it was the easiest one—meat loaf! A simple recipe of ground beef and pork, breadcrumbs, seasonings, and mushroom gravy. But it was certainly a good dish!

And that’s just the beginning! I’ve made some non-cookbook recipes, and I have more plans to make real cookbook recipes. I’ve had a lot of fun trying new recipes. I can’t wait to try more.

Thanks for letting me brag and ramble about it!

Peace, friends <3
