I Promise I'll Start a Podcast

When she gets bored/fed up with the mundane of the world—schoolwork or job applications—my best friend Maurita looks at apartments that she might be able to afford someday. She likes to visualize what life could be like in the future.

I like to visualize what life could be like if I had more free time and money as well. But I don’t look at apartments. Instead, I plan for my podcast.

My podcast will be called “Tub Talk.” A few years ago on New Years, Maurita, myself, and our friend Layla had a very long and fairly deep conversation in the bathroom at Maurita’s apartment at school. Oddly enough, it was not the first time I’ve had a deep conversation with friends while sitting on the floor of a bathroom. So I developed my podcast, where the hosts—Maurita and I—will sit in/around a bathtub and gab. Logistically, the acoustics could be an issue with sound bouncing off tile and porcelain, but I’m pretty sure we’d be able to find a way around that. I’ve read multiple articles that explain how one can start a podcast and the necessary equipment (I guess it was dumb to assume that all I’d need was my computer, huh?) and even decided on a few episode ideas. Because it’s a show based on the fact that bathroom conversations are sometimes deep and emotional, some of the episodes can get deep and emotional. So far, we’ve got:

  1. Feminism — What is feminism, why we need to raise strong, unapologetic women, and the process of unlearning gender roles.

  2. Friendship — Every friendship has flaws. Some friendships last forever, some don’t. Some friendships have to survive some serious distance. So we talk about friendship! What makes a good friendship? What happens if friendships become toxic? How do you start a serious heart-to-heart conversation?

  3. Make-up “Tutorials” — This was Maurita’s idea. She is a makeup person. I am not. So the idea would be that Maurita would do her makeup, and I would describe for the listeners what she was doing to the best of my ability. This might lead into some type of conversation about femininity or something, or it’ll just be a silly podcast of me trying to understand how makeup works.

  4. Tales of Retail — Self-explanatory. Without naming store names or people, Maurita and I would regale our audience with tales of our days in retail; from odd customer requests to the various weird regulars that hang around, the stories will entertain our audience and hopefully give them something to relate to.

Then, once we get famous enough, we can start bringing in guests. I have ideas for them too, but I can’t get too far into it.

The plan is this: Maurita buys a house. In one of the rooms of said house, we set up our studio with a claw-footed bathroom. Then, we record.

It will definitely happen. Definitely.
